Basic start-up information for you before you join Wordcount.
I won't keep you long here, but wanted to provide you with some basic info to help you understand how things will work before you join,
Confidentiality
In the work I do with individual clients, I keep the strictest standards of confidentiality..
The group setting is slightly different though, so I want to be clear about the degree to which privacy and confidentiality exists within the Wordcount group.
I will not share your contact details with any other member of the group.
Once you are inside the online area for Wordcount, you'll see the 'work areas' and also a forum area. What you write in the 'work areas' is visible only to me and to my administrative assistant, potentially. What you write in the forum will be visible to other members of the group. Your full name may be visible to other group members in the forum.
Costs
The joining fee of $165.00 covers all course content and material. Costs associated with taking part in the live group discussions will be your responsibility, You will have access to numbers in all Australian capital cities, as well as in locations around the world if you are travelling at the time of a call and wish to participate. It is also possible to join the calls using Skype voice calls and to join using the web. If you join the discussions using the web, you will be able to hear the discussion live, and will be able to type in questions. To the best of my understanding, you will need to be on a phone if you wish to speak directly into the call.
Dial in details - these will be emailed to you well in advance before each call. They will be the same for each call.
Recording.
I will record all of our group calls, and will provide a recording to all members of the group after each call as an MP3 audio file. It is also possible that I may use part of the recordings - the parts where I am speaking, but not those where group members are speaking, in for future training purposes for other writers. I emphasise that no recording of your material, written or audio, will be accessible to anyone outside of this group.
Your writing
The purpose and focus of the group is to discuss emotional and psychological aspects of writing. It is not intended as a forum for discussing technical and craft aspects of writing - though members are welcome to these discussions if they wish. I will not read, nor comment upon groups members' work (as much as I might love to !).
Contact with me
To a significant extent, I request that our contact as a group takes place within the Wordcount online area. I will check the forum regularly and I hope that you do, also, and that you contribute to the group discussion. If there are important matters you need to direct to me outside the online area, it is OK for you to email me ([email protected]). However I ask that you try to limit email contact as much as possible (understanding that there are inevitable issues that need to be sorted along the way and it will be OK and necessary to address them). So, the message is, don't be frightened to email me, but try to limit the number and frequency of emails. Thank you !!
Well-being
The content and processes within Wordcount are not intended as therapy or counselling in any sense. In the event that during the course of the program you encounter emotional or psychological difficulty, please feel free to let me know privately, so that we can discuss whether it is in your interests to continue as part of the group. Any such private contact will be held in the strictest confidence, unless, for legal and or safety reasons I am obliged to disclose information to other relevant professionals.
Well - I really hope you enjoy our time together as a group. This is a pilot for me, so I will be very interested in your feedback. Please let me know how things are going for you along the way. If something is not working well, better to let me know earlier rather than later, so I can do something about it.
Thanks again for being part of this group. Look forward to 'seeing' you on our first call next week.
All the best,
Alison
