Meet the Writer's Psych, Alison Manning.
Alison founded A Mind of One's Own in 2013 after publishing a podcast series with Australian author, Charlotte Wood. The podcast conversations explored writers' unique psychological and emotional challenges, providing guidance and advice for writers about mind management strategies that could minimise procrastination, overwhelm, and anxiety, while increasing focused engagement with the writing work.
Alison holds a Master of Clinical Psychology and qualifications in broadcast journalism, coaching, communication and environmental management.
Now, having worked for ten years with writers providing therapy, coaching and training, Alison has distilled her understanding of the writer's mind into a new series of workshops, retreats and coaching programs, collectively known as the Writermind Project. Through the Writermind Project Alison seeks to help writers cultivate effective, practical psychological strategies and emotion management skills as the centrepiece of the writer's sustainable, engaged, long term writing practice.
Research
Alison has conducted research with more than 500 fiction writers exploring factors associated with writers' procrastination and emotion regulation. Alison's 2023 research identified unique emotion regulation strategies writers use to reduce procrastination. Alison will be teaching these mind skills to writers and writing mentors.
The Writermind Project programs are in development, and Alison aims to introduce them to you in 2024. Included will be Writer's Reset Retreats, a Writermind Essentials membership hub, and a guided coaching program helping you to foster the writing life you want.
